If you just want to go mountain biking, it is as easy as finding the nearest steep incline, putting the bike in the car, and heading over to your chosen destination. But there are certain mountain biking trails that deserve special attention from the biking enthusiasts for the particular beauty and distinctiveness.

As the least populous state in the United States, Wyoming offers vast expanses of gorgeous wilderness, perfect for scenic mountain biking. Trails are available for all skill levels, and whether you wish to bike through a coniferous forest or a alongside a raging river, plenty of options are available. Of special interest is the Prospect Mountain area in southeastern Wyoming, great for experienced mountain bikers due to difficult trails with stunningly picturesque vistas throughout the journey. For those who are prepared for a steep climb, the Pinedale area is home to the Half Moon Mountain, with a sagebrush park at the base and trails that wind right up to the top of the mountain. Be prepared for a difficult trek, but the view at the top is well worth it.

New York State has some fantastic mountain biking trails that wind through the Adirondacks, the Catskill Mountains, and the other stunning natural wonders that characterize the Northeast. If you want to stay at a mountain bike resort, New York has plenty of options, such as Verizon Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. This area features several different trails, perfect for riders of all skill levels and all ages. For trails of a more intermediate or advanced rider, Whiteface Mountain offers trails through the valley and alongside rivers. No matter which area you choose, New York is sure to provide an exciting and memorable venue for mountain biking adventures.

If you plan to head to the Southwest for a mountain biking trip, you are well advised to check out mountain biking trails in Arizona. Of special interest are the several trails in and around the Grand Canyon, one of the most stunning areas in the country, if not the world, to embark on a mountain biking adventure. Guided tours are available, but you are also encouraged to explore your surroundings on your own, especially the revered Rainbow Rim Trail. Several of the bike trails also take you to otherwise hard-to-reach spots with rare and gorgeous views, which is all the more reason to head out there for your mountain biking journey.

How to Travel For FREE

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Most everyone would love to travel (even if they don’t want to go too far), but they don’t want to have to spend the money to get there.  There are a few ways that you can travel the world at no cost to yourself.

alive online

1. Use the company dime. When your company offers to send you to a conference or even then go.  Use the down time (there is usually quite a bit) to take in the local sites.  You will have your trip paid for by your company, you will get to see some sites that are new to you, and you may even learn a thing are two while you are away.

2. Do it for charity.

Offer to go on a mission trip or some other type of helping excursion.  Since you will be working for a large portion of the time, your expenses are often covered (or you may be able to get a sponsor).  Not only will you be helping out someone in need, but your trip will bring you up close and personal with the customs of the area you are visiting.

3. Become a travel writer. Pitch a book about a unique travel experience (or something you have always wanted to do) and find a publisher who is interested AND willing to pay expenses.  If a book is too overwhelming to consider then think magazines.  Many of the publications on the market today are willing to pay reasonable expenses for their freelance authors.

4. Use your rewards. Sign up for credit cards and other services that give you reward points (or cash back options are even better).  Use this found money or these services to go places you have only dreamed of in the past.

5. Sign up to be a guest or a contestant on a television or radio show. It may be a long shot for you to get chosen, but it will be an experience you will never forget if you are selected.  The great thing is that many of the shows will pay your expenses (and possible those of friends or family).  Be sure to find out before you finalize any agreements.

Traveling can be expensive, but there are ways around that expense.  It takes some boldness to get there, but with a little creativity and some compromise you can find ways to travel the world for FREE.

Cheap Trips for the Family

It seems that all the trips that are touted as the perfect family get away focus on different entertainment for the different ages in your family. For us, the perfect family getaway keeps our family together. We are always looking for ways to have fun but not spend a fortune in the process.

1. Camping. Although the cost of the initial set up can be expensive, it is possible to buy some of the needs second hand. With a tent, some sleeping bags, and a basic ability to cook over a camp fire, you and your family can stay anywhere for just a few dollars a day.

2. Family Memberships. For just a couple of hundred dollars (or less in some places) you can have unlimited opportunities to have fun as a family. Just last week, our family spent the day at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, TN. With family passes, we can go back any time we want – for just a few hours or for another full day of fun. Even better, many zoos and aquariums have reciprocal programs – which mean that we will be able to visit places all over for free or for a discounted price.

3. Historical sites. There are great, hidden treasures all over that offer free tours. A few years back we found ourselves in Quincy, Illinois. Just a short trip to Missouri gave us the chance to tour the home town of Mark Twain. We got to see the fence that he had to pain growing up (and which was an important part of Tom Sawyer). For just a few dollars each, we toured the cave that was featured in the same book.

4. Unique animal parks. There is a buffalo park in Mississippi and a Safari park in South Georgia. Both parks offer a full day of fun and excitement for kids of all ages.

5. Free weekends. If you have children that are old enough to be left alone for an hour or so, most condo companies offer free weekends to couples with incomes over a certain amount. You could spend the money that would normally go towards lodging on events, food, or other outings.

6. Search for the best deals on flights using lowfares.com they usually help me find cheap flights to practically any destination

These ideas are a great start of fabulous family outings on a budget. They can be done individual or combined for a vacation that will be worth remembering. Don’t make it complicated, just make it creative.
