Surfing: Best Places to Surf Jamaica
Jamaica is known for its rich culture and beautiful scenery as an island nation located in the beautiful Caribbean Sea. Its tropical climate, with agreeable temperatures all year long, certainly has an influence on its high amounts of tourism. Surfers especially love Jamaica because of its world-class waves and pristine beaches, and there are certain spots in the country that are notably superior.
The Boston Bay Beach is a surfer’s dream destination. With some of the biggest waves in Jamaica, you can most definitely count on riding an epic wave or two before your stay in the country is over. You can also find plenty of surf amenities in and around the beach, like surf lessons, surf shops, and local food for picnics. Most importantly, though, for those who have had to wait patiently for the crowds to thin, is the fact that the Boston Bay Beach is not packed to the gills with angry locals and self-entitled tourists. All-in-all, the Boston Bay Beach is a great place to go for a surfer who wants to experience what Jamaican surfing is all about.
Experienced surfers will definitely enjoy Canon Cave. Expect a walk to get from where you park to the beach, but when you get there, you will not be disappointed. There are hardly any crowds to fight through, but there are plenty of waves that are some of the best that the country has to offer. Although Canon Cave is somewhat hard to find, it has the advantage of being empty throughout much of the year, which is certainly good for those that are in the know. Powerful waves and fairly consistent swells mean that surfers will enjoy it.
World-class waves are to be enjoyed at DNA, but only very experienced surfers need come out. The surf is regular and the waves are powerful, so the surfer should have no problem should his skill level be up to par. On a good day, the waves are long and very surfable, making it one of the better surfing spots in the country. But do brush up on your technique, or you may find yourself getting a bit too acquainted with the rocks and sea urchins.
